Why are there PTFE and Kynar- PVDF extended delivery
Throughout the last year, the business has experienced more shortages than I have come across inside my three decades experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have seen several shortages, and delivery issues due to plastic resin allocations through plastic resin manufacturers. This is the first occasion I have seen all these issues at the same time.
PTFE (TFE) and PVDF both are on allocation.
Both of these resins are in short supply. The PTFE Sheeting product PTFE (TFE) along with Kynar-PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that's mined in Mongolia and China. The world demand for this mineral has increased significantly, as well as supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and really low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilized in dozens of applications from non-stick fry kitchenware to ptfe tape for home use. This particular mineral is a critical raw material in the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and many refrigerants. This increasing amount of demand paired with shortage of raw materials is mainly responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double throughout the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to keep at it in the near future.
