Fiberglass pool gelcoat problems

Why is my fiberglass pool shell fading? This is a frequent question that fiberglass pool owners may have to understand at some point.

This dulling can start as a white material forming on the shell of the swimming pool and can also make the water seem hazy. The white particulate can also build up in the filter which will require frequent cleaning. This can happen to any fiberglass pool because of age, over doing chemical treatments (especially overchlorination) or most frequently, a combination of these concerns.

If you view a layer of white or greyish-white material on the sides of your pool around the waterline, that's calcium. Calcium can build up and leach into the pool’s gelcoat. As fiberglass pools begin to get older the gelcoat finish will slowly fade to white over time. Calcium scale deposits happen when your water has too much calcium or from hard water. The white metal depostis are usually from calcium deposits that have built up over the years.

Maintaining a beautiful fiberglass pool means keeping the water in balance by maintaining the right chemicals and systems to help control the factors that make calcification possible. One such platform is the Vibranz fiberglass pool care system.
